Luohe, located in central-southern Henan, covers an area of 2,617 square kilometers and has a population of 2.52 million with 2 countries and 3 districts under its jurisdiction. As far back as the Southern and Northern Dynasties, the Northern Wei Dynasty built a town of Qi'e here and entitled it as Yingchuan County. The town of Luowan was built as a ferry terminal in the nineteenth year of the reign of Emperor Jiaqing of the Ming Dynasty, later its name was changed into Luohe, which was commonly known as a "gathering place of commodities in the Yangtze River and Huaihe River Basin." In April 1992, Luohe was designated by Henan Province as a pilot Inland Special Economic Zone. In 1994, Luohe was designated by the state as an experimental city for implementing comprehensive reform.
Luohe is blessed with favorable natural conditions. The Shahe River and Lihe River traverse the city and there is also abundant underground water with single well flashy flow of over 60 tons per hour, providing ideal conditions for the development of agriculture and commodity economy.
An optimized industrial structure has been established in Luohe with superior industries of foodstuffs, papermaking, leather manufacturing, shoe making, textiles, chemical, machinery and instrument making as its mainstay. A group of backbone enterprises, including Henan Shineway Group Co., Ltd., Henan Zhongyuan Industrial and Trading Company, and Henan Luohe Strongmen Group, have emerged and new industrial enterprise groups with high starting points are also taking shape. Over 100 kinds of products are turned out from various industries, the major ones are ham, instant noodles, parted meat, paper for cultural purposes, cigarettes, biological and chemical medicines, leather, shoes, knitted fabric, detergent, pumps, cutter-rowers, threshers, flour mills and chemical fertilizers. Henan Shineway Group Co., Ltd. is the largest meat processing enterprise in China and has established multiple shops with modern facilities and advanced management in urban and rural areas throughout the country.
The living standard and quality of life have improved remarkably in Luohe. The per capita public green area has reached 13.2 square meters in the city, which was granted the honor of "National Garden City" and "National Model of Living Environment." |
