      As the capital city of Henan, Zhengzhou is the political, economic and cultural center of the province. Under its jurisdiction are 5 boroughs, 1 county and 4 special zones, namely, the Zhengzhou Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, Zhengzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone, New East-Zhengzhou Zone and Zhengzhou Export Commodities Processing Zone. It has an area of 7,446 square kilometers and an approximate population of 7 million. Linking the east and the west and connecting the north and the south, Zhengzhou plays an important role in the economic development of China. As a prominent transportation hub, Zhengzhou is also a commercial center, a city with long history and splendid culture, an outstanding tourism city.
      Zhengzhou is a comprehensive transportation and communication center. It is here that the Beijing-Guangzhou railway and Lianyungang-Lanzhou railway as well as Beijing-Zhuhai and Lianyungang-Huoerguos state trunk highways intersect. Zhengzhou North Railway Station possesses the largest freight marshalling yard in Asia, and Zhengzhou East Railway Station is the largest package freight transfer station in China. Commodities for export via railway can directly go through customs formalities in Zhengzhou and be shipped to abroad. No. 107 and No. 310 state highways and 18 key highways radiate from the city to surrounding provinces and cities. The Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport has nearly 500 flights to more than 50 major domestic cities, and direct flight to Hong Kong and Macao is also offered. Zhengzhou's post and telecommunication service volume is among the greatest in China and Zhengzhou Information Port begins to take shape.
      As a national center of commerce and trade, Zhengzhou possesses a batch of large multifunctional commercial establishments and distribution markets. Every year there will be held in Zhengzhou a variety of national or regional trade fairs, expositions and business talks over a hundred times. The China Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange was the first futures market designated by the State Council in China.
Taking textile, machinery, building material, refractory material, vehicle manufacturing, foodstuffs, etc., as the mainstay, the city owns a great number of large-scale enterprises, such as White Dove (Group) Co., Ltd., the largest of its kind in China, which manufactures abrasive materials and grinding products, Zhengzhou Yutong Coach Corporation, the largest in scale and most advanced in technology in Asia, and the Zhengzhou Nissan Automobile Co., Ltd., the base for manufacturing business vans of Japan Nissan Auto Company in China.
      There are 34 mineral reserves verified around Zhengzhou and the special local products like Xinzheng dates, Zhongmo garlic and Yellow River carps, are known to the country.
      Zhengzhou's GDP of 2005 reached 165 billion RMB yuan, increasing by 15.8% as against the previous year.
Among the abundant tourism resources of Zhengzhou, there are the birthplace of the Yellow Emperor, the ruins of the Shang Dynasty, the ruins of Dahecun Culture, the Shaolin Temple, Songyang Academy of the Song Dynasty, the Zhongyue Temple, Henan Museum, and Yellow River Scenic Spots. Ranking among the "Eight Major Ancient Cities of China" in 2004, Zhengzhou has also joined the League of World Historical Cities.
      The city of Zhengzhou has established friendly relationship with Saitama of Japan, Richmond of the USA, Cluj-Napoca of Romania, Chinji of the ROK, Samara of Russia, Mariental of Namibia, Irbid of Jordan, Joinville of Brazil and Schwerin in Germany.
      The city flower of Zhengzhou is Chinese Rose.
