Located in the far northern Henan and at the junction of three provinces of Shanxi, Hebei and Henan, Anyang has been accredited as National Excellent Tourism city, Provincial Garden City and Provincial Advanced Civilized City. She covers an area of 7,413 square kilometers and has a population of 5.31 million with 1 city, 4 counties and 4 districts as well as a High-tech Industrial Development Zone under its jurisdiction.
Anyang is one of the eight major ancient capital cities in China and a famous national historical and cultural city as well. The Chinese character inscriptions on oracle bones were discovered here; and it gave birth to both The Book of Changes and the Red-Flag-Canal Spirit. The earliest Chinese character inscriptions on oracle bones and the world's largest bronze ware Si Mu Wu Quadripods were unearthed here.
Anyang, abundant in historical sites and scenic spots, owns 8 key units of cultural relics under the state protection, namely, the Yin Ruins Museum, Memorial Temple of Yue Fei (1103-1142), Tianning Temple Pogoda, Xiuding Temple Pagoda, Mingfu Temple Pagoda, Xiaonanhai Grotto, Youli City, and Lingquan Temple Grottoe. Besides, there are 38 cultural relic sites under the provincial protection.
Anyang has gained a reputation of "the granary of northern Henan." Huaxian County is the production base of high quality wheat while Neihuang County is famous for its dates. Anyang is also endowed with considerable mineral reserves of coal, iron ore, limestone and marble.
Anyang enjoys convenient transportation with the Beijing-Guangzhou Railway, Beijing- Zhuhai Expressway, No.106 and 107 National Highways, Anyang-Linzhou Railway, and Tangyin- Puyang Railway running through the city.
As an important industrial base of Henan, Anyang has initially established an industrial system with metallurgy, electronics, chemicals, electric power, machinery, and tobacco as its mainstay. The Anyang Iron and Steel Group and the Anyang Color Kinescope Glass Group rank among China's top 500 largest industrial enterprises and both are listed in the Chinese stock markets. What is worth noticing is that as the largest production center of color kinescope glass nationwide, Anyang Color Kinescope Glass Group ranks first in output among factories of its kind around the world.
In 2005, the city's GDP was RMB£¤55.6 billion, an increase of 14.8% over the previous year with the per capita GDP of Anyang exceeding RMB£¤10,000. The per-capita disposable income of urban residents increased by 8% while the per-capita net income of rural residents increased by 6%. The total import and export value reached US$ 726.44 million.
