As a rising petrochemical city, Puyang is located in north-eastern Henan, covers an area of 4,188 square kilometers and has a population of 3.55million with 5 counties and  1 district under its jurisdiction.
Puyang has a long history with a splendid culture and thus is named as a famous historical and cultural city by the State Council. It is the native place of the ancient Emperor Shun and the birthplace of the Zhang¡¯s clan and the Chinese dragon. Major scenic spots here include Cultural Relics of Qicheng, the Tomb of Zilu who was one of Confucius¡¯ disciples, the Tomb of Zhang Hui, the Tomb of Cang Xie, the legendary inventor of Chinese characters, the Central Pavilion, the Imperial Well, the Imperial Stone Tablet, and the Street with architecture styles of the Ming and Qing dynasties. The Puyang Acrobatic Troupe enjoys great fame both at home and abroad. It has been to more than 40 countries and regions in the world to give performances and won time and again gold medals in international acrobatic competitions. Dongbei Village in Puyang has been granted the title of the ¡°Village of Acrobatics in China¡±. Puyang is adorned with green plants and flourishing flowers almost all the year round. The Green Manor, Pushang Park and other ecological tourist parks make the city even more beautiful and appealing. As a city for tourism with an ideal living environment, Puyang is known as a "Paradise on Earth" and an "Oasis of the Central Plains", and has been conferred with such honorable titles as National Sanitary City, National Garden City, National Advanced and Civilized City, National Excellent Tourism City, National Model City with ideal environment for living; it has also won medals like Dubai International Model for Improving Living Environment.
Puyang has laid a solid foundation for further development. In 2005, GDP of the city reached RMB£¤39.8 billion, up by 14.5% over the previous year. Among the top 200 cities with charming Chinese characteristics, Puyang ranks 77th in the country and 3rd in Henan Province.
Puyang is endowed with ample resources for development and she is rich in petroleum, natural gas and other minerals like coal and salt. As the center of the Central Plains' oilfield, Puyang has established a relatively comprehensive industrial system with the petrochemical industry as its mainstay and set up a number of large enterprises, such as Zhongyuan Oilfield Company, Zhongyuan Ethylene Corporation and Zhongyuan Petrochemical Co., Ltd., and the largest production base in northern China of special glasses, electric illuminants, plastics and textiles. Besides, black ceramics and drawings with wheat stalk are also well-known throughout the country. Puyang is also an important national base of commodity grain. Various agricultural research centers and agricultural high-tech model parks have been set up here, building an advanced agricultural research system centered on the breeding of improved varieties as well as the popularization and application of such techniques. Puyang abounds in high-quality wheat, rice, corn, soybean, peanut and other agricultural produces. There is a sufficient supply of pigs, goats, rabbits, and chickens in this area, and the livestock and poultry raising has become quite an industry.
Enjoying a favorable geographical location, Puyang may extend to the coastal area of Shandong Province in the east and to Hebei Province and Tianjin in the north. The construction of expressways and railways helps Puyang become a transportation hub which links Beijing-Guangzhou Railway and Beijing-Kowloon Railway and ensure a rapid development of the city in the future.
