Convenient Transportation
As a key hub of railway, aviation and highway communication in China, Henan links various parts of China in all directions. She has 3 A-grade ports and 8 B-grade ones, ranking first among China's inland provinces. By the end of 2005, the mileage of highway open to traffic in the province had reached over 80,000 kilometers, of which 2,678 kilometers are expressways, taking the forth place in the country; while expressways under construction rank first. An expressway network has been formed, radiating from Zhengzhou to 17 other cities including Luoyang, Sanmenxia, Kaifeng, Shangqiu, Xinxiang, Jiaozuo, Jiyuan, Hebi, Anyang, Puyang, Xuchang, Luohe, Zhumadian, Zhoukou, Xinyang, Pingdingshan and Nanyang. The Zhengzhou-Shaolin Temple Expressway is already open to traffic. It takes no more than three hours to reach all the above mentioned cities from Zhengzhou by car. This has created an important condition for turning the advantages of location into those of economy. The highway bridges over the Yellow River at Zhengzhou, Luoyang, Kaifeng and Sanmenxia have connected the transportation on both sides of the river and five international container transport lines pass through Zhengzhou.
The Ministry of Communications has decided to launch a pilot project in Henan to build a passenger transport hub and a logistics center for the middle region of China. The Ministry is to help Henan province in setting up a high-speed passenger transport center and a logistics center.
Henan is an important railway hub in China. North-south railways of Beijing-Guangzhou, Beijing-Kowloon and Jiaozuo-Zhicheng and east-west railways of Lanzhou-Lianyungang, Nanjing-Xi¡¯an, Xinxiang-Heze and Luohe-Baofeng crisscross in the province. The Eurasian Bridge traverses the whole province. The capital city of Zhengzhou is located at the junction of Beijing-Guangzhou Railway and Lanzhou-Lianyungang Railway. And the largest freight marshalling yard on the Eurasian Continental Bridge from Lianyungang to Rotterdam lies in Zhenghou, whose freight transshipment and handling capacity and operational facilities are of the first-class world level. Commodities for export via railway can directly go through customs formalities in Zhengzhou.
With three airports located respectively at Zhengzhou, Luoyang and Nanyang, there are over 500 flights every week to over 50 important domestic cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Xi'an, 8 more flights to and from Hong Kong, and a number of non-regular direct flight services to Kuala Lumpur, Seoul, Tokyo, Macao and Taipei. Zhengzhou International Airport is one of those 21 major international airports in China and one of China's 10 largest airports. A group of foreign airline companies, such as MK of Great Britain and those in Bangkok, United Arab Emirates, have found their way into Henan province with 6 passenger and freight routes being opened. The China International Airline and the China Southern Airline have respectively offered direct flight service from Zhengzhou via Beijing to Frankfurt and Los Angeles and the one from Zhengzhou via Guangzhou to Singapore and Sydney, Australia.
