Rapid Economic Development with High Quality |

The year of 2005 witnessed the rapid and high quality development with good benefits in terms of national economy. The goal of fast-and-well development of economy and society has been realized. Henan's GDP reached 1,053.52 billion RMB yuan with an increase of 14.1% over the previous year, and the GDP per capita was more than 10,000 RMB yuan. The economic aggregate has jumped onto a new stage and the economy has developed successively for five years at high speed with good quality. Henan province has become the fifth province in China whose GDP has surpassed 1,000 billion RMB yuan, which enables Henan¡¯s economic and social development to continue at a new strategic starting point.
Of the above-mentioned GDP figure, the value added gained by the first industry was 184.3 billion RMB yuan, increasing 7.5% as against the previous year; that of the second industry 553.93 billion RMB yuan, increasing 17.6%; and that of the third industry 315.28 billion RMB yuan with an increase of 12.6%. The total output of grain in 2005 was 45.82 million ton, and the increased output accounted for a quarter of that of the entire nation. Henan took the lead in exempting the agricultural tax levied for over 2,000 years in Chinese history, which set a good example in the country.
The sales income of Yongcheng Coal Mining Group reached 10.6 billion RMB yuan with a per capita business income of 1.05 million RMB yuan, which ranked first among the state-owned enterprises in the country.
The Anyang Iron and Steel Group gained more than 20 billion RMB yuan of sales income in 2005, and the Works has become ¡°the Iron and Steel Backbone¡± in the drive of invigorating the Central Plains.
The first 29-inch super-thin color glass kinescope was developed at Zhengzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone, which set up another milestone in the development history of glass kinescope industry in China.
A batch of generating sets with high parameter and capacity has been built and put into production. The total installed capacity reached 28.81 million kw, ranking fifth in China. The number of private-owned enterprises and corporations in Henan took the second and sixth place respectively in the country.
In China, 7 out of every 10 ham sausages are produced in Henan province; 4 out of every 10 tractors are manufactured in Luoyang, Henan. Coaches and buses of Yutong brand (made in Zhengzhou) are in wide use all over the country; Xinfei brand refrigerators (made in Xinxiang, Henan) have entered European and American markets.
The value added of large-scale industry mounted to 330 billion RMB yuan and the profits reached 60 billion RMB yuan, increased by 23% and 45% respectively, ranking third in the country. This means that Henan has become a major industrial province in the country.
The local revenue of Henan province in 2005 was 53.75 billion RMB yuan with an increase of 30%. In terms of local revenue, 66 counties and cities surpassed 100 million RMB yuan, 35 counties and cities surpassed 200 million RMB yuan, and 10 counties and cities surpassed 500 million RMB yuan, and the city of Gongyi, for that matter, even surpassed 1 billion RMB yuan.
The influence of Zhengzhou Grain Wholesale Market has extended to most cities in the country. And the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange is the first futures exchange of farm produce in China and the ¡°cereal price at Zhengzhou¡± has become the guided price in the country.
By the end of 2005 saving deposit at various financial institutions in Henan has mounted to more than 1,000 billion RMB yuan.
Foreign capital utilization and exports maintain good momentum. By the end of 2005, 35 multinationals belonging to the top 500 in the world have established their branch companies here, such as Walmart of the USA, GKN of U.K., Siemens of Germany, Lafarge of France, Lotus of Thailand, the Electric Power Corporation of Korea and CVRD of Brazil. The total export and import value in 2005 was US$ 7.74 billion with an increase of 17% compared with that of the previous year. The direct foreign investment actually utilized was US$1.23 billion, registering an increase of 40%. As much as 50 billion RMB yuan of capital was lured from outside the province. The Zhengzhou-California Industrial Town, which plans to cover an area of 46 square kilometers with a total investment of US$ 230 million, is under construction now.
Tourism industry also witnessed rapid development: more than 100 million visitors and tourists from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and the mainland visited Henan in 2005. The National Tourism Administration has cabled a message of congratulation to the Provincial People¡¯s Government stating that it served as a major milestone in the development of Henan¡¯s tourism industry and a scratch line for Henan to become a powerful province in tourism. |
