The Living Standard and Quality of Life Noticeably Improved |

The living standard and quality of life of people in both urban and rural areas in Henan have been noticeably improved. In 2005, the per capita available income of urban residents was 8,650 RMB yuan, 10% higher than that of the previous year. The per capita net income of people in rural area was 2,870 RMB yuan with an increase of 7.5%.
The natural population growth in Henan is lower than the average rate of the country.
The primary education has steadily progressed and a historical breakthrough has been made in higher education. There are now 83 institutions of higher learning with a total enrollment of 851,900 students, ranking fifth in the nation and being above the average level of the country. At present as many as 51 fellows of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering working at different institutions of higher learning in the province.
There have been built and shaped in Henan province 14 fine cities suitable for tourism, 12 hygienic cities and 3 garden-like cities at the national level including Zhengzhou, Luoyang and Kaifeng. |
