In 2022, Henan has achieved leapfrog development in the construction of expressways. On December 26, a total of 14 new expressways with a mileage of 812 kilometers and an investment of 85.1 billion yuan opened to traffic, bringing the province's total expressway mileage in operation to over 8,000 kilometers.

Henan saw 150 billion yuan invested in highway and waterway projects in 2022, rising nearly 50 percent compared with the same period of last year. So far, a total of 47 expressway projects belonging to the province's "13445 Project" have been under construction, with a mileage of 2,862 kilometers and an investment of 425.7 billion yuan. Besides, key transportation projects listed inthe province's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) have been under construction and are expected to be completed as schedule.

By 2025, Henan's expressway mileage is expected toexceed 10,000 kilometers, with ring expressways available in all the prefecture-level cities. Besides, by 2025, each county in Henan will have two expressways while each town one.
