By 5 p.m. on June 7, a total of 72.748 million mu (1 mu equals 0.067 hectares) or 85 percent of wheat has been harvested across Central China's Henan province, with 118 thousand combine harvesters working in the fields every day, said a source from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Henan on the same day.
Specifically, wheat harvest in South Henan, including Xinyang, Nanyang and Zhumadian, has been basically completed. Meanwhile, wheat harvest in Henan's eastern, central and western areas is progressing smoothly. Wheat harvest in Zhoukou has been basically completed and in Luohe has almost come to an end. More than 90 percent of wheat has been harvested in Kaifeng, while more than 80 percent in Shangqiu, Pingdingshan, Luoyang, Xuchang and Zhengzhou. North Henan has become the main wheat harvest area now.
Harvest is followed by planting. By June 7, 45.18 million mu or 49.6 percent of arable land has been sown, 10.15 million mu on average. 34.53 million mu of grain crops have been sown, including 29.39 million mu of maize, 3.68 million mu of rice and 0.93 million mu of soybeans. Besides, 6.72 million mu of peanuts and 2.84 million mu of vegetables and melons have been sown.
